Senior Transport Planner / Principal Transport Planner / Associate / Associate Director – Transport Planning
Location: London (Hybrid Working Available)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated transport planning professional to join our growing Development Planning team in London. This role is available at Senior Transport Planner, Principal, Associate, or Associate Director level, depending on experience and capability.
You will play a key role in delivering transport planning advice and technical assessments for a diverse portfolio of development projects across London and the wider South East. Working alongside developers, architects, planners, and local authorities, you will help shape sustainable and deliverable development proposals from inception through to planning approval.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise with commercial awareness, client-facing skills, and a passion for delivering high-quality transport planning solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Delivery
Lead and contribute to the preparation of Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, Delivery and Servicing Plans, Construction Logistics Plans, and other supporting planning documents.
Provide transport planning input to residential, commercial, mixed-use, education, healthcare, logistics, and regeneration developments.
Undertake development planning assessments in accordance with national, regional, and local planning policy.
Manage and interpret transport data, traffic surveys, and modelling outputs.
Liaise with local highway authorities, Transport for London, developers, architects, and planning consultants.
Support planning applications through pre-application discussions, submissions, and determination stages.
Review junction modelling, transport modelling, and technical analysis undertaken by colleagues or external consultants.
Provide strategic transport advice to clients on development opportunities and constraints.
Project and Client Management
Manage projects to programme, budget, and quality requirements.
Act as a key point of contact for clients and stakeholders.
Prepare fee proposals and support business development activities.
Identify opportunities to grow existing client relationships and secure new work.
Represent the business at client meetings, industry events, and networking opportunities.
Leadership and Team Development
Mentor and support junior team members.
Undertake technical review and quality assurance of reports and assessments.
Contribute to team development, recruitment, and staff training initiatives.
At Associate and Associate Director level, provide strategic leadership and support the growth of the Development Planning business.
Requirements
Essential
Degree qualified in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, Planning, or a related discipline.
Demonstrable experience in development planning transport consultancy.
Strong understanding of the UK planning system and transport policy framework.
Experience preparing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, and Travel Plans.
Excellent report writing and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
Strong client-facing and stakeholder engagement skills.
Desirable
Chartered status or progress towards chartership (CIHT, TPS, ICE, RTPI, or equivalent).
Experience working on major development projects within London.
Knowledge of Transport for London guidance and London Plan policies.
Experience reviewing or managing traffic modelling and junction assessment work.
Existing client relationships and business development experience.
