One of Vivid Resourcing’s Local Authority clients in the North West is seeking a Private Sector Housing Officer to join their team on a part-time, 6-month contract. This role will primarily focus on supporting the Healthy Homes Project, aimed at improving housing conditions within the private rented sector and promoting health and safety for residents in the area.
Key Responsibilities:
As part of a dedicated team, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that private sector housing meets essential health and safety standards, particularly through the Healthy Homes Project. Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting property inspections to assess compliance with housing regulations, including health and safety, fire safety, and energy efficiency standards, with a focus on addressing housing conditions that impact resident’s health.
- Engaging with landlords, tenants, and other stakeholders to raise awareness about housing hazards (e.g., damp, poor ventilation, unsafe heating), and work collaboratively to resolve issues that could affect tenant’s health and well being.
- Issuing improvement notices where necessary, ensuring properties are brought up to standard and taking enforcement action when needed to ensure compliance with housing laws.
- Collaborating with local health and housing agencies to provide comprehensive support for residents in need, ensuring housing issues are addressed holistically with a focus on overall health improvement.
- Providing advice and guidance to landlords and tenants regarding their rights and responsibilities, particularly around housing conditions and health-related hazards.
- Record-keeping on property inspections, issuing notices, and other actions in compliance with the local authority’s systems and policies.
This role provides the opportunity to directly influence the living conditions of residents in the private rented sector, ensuring that housing is both safe and healthy, in line with the aims of the Healthy Homes Project.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience in private sector housing enforcement, housing standards, or a related field is desirable.
- Knowledge of housing law and regulations, particularly as they relate to health and safety standards in the private rented sector.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with a variety of stakeholders, including landlords, tenants, and other local agencies.
- A proactive approach to resolving housing issues and promoting health and safety.
- Availability to work part-time for a 6-month contract.
