About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Transport Planner to join our Development Planning team. This is an opportunity to join a growing and collaborative team working on a diverse range of residential, commercial, mixed-use, education, healthcare and employment developments across the UK.

We are open to applications from candidates at a range of career stages, from Assistant Transport Planner through to Principal Transport Planner. The role and level of responsibility will be tailored to reflect the successful candidate’s skills, experience and professional aspirations.

You will contribute to the delivery of high-quality transport planning advice throughout the development process, supporting clients from initial site appraisal through to planning application and post-consent stages.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on your experience, responsibilities may include:

  • Preparing and reviewing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements and Travel Plans.
  • Undertaking transport modelling, junction capacity assessments and technical analysis using industry-standard software.
  • Analysing traffic, travel behaviour and accessibility data.
  • Supporting or leading the preparation of development planning strategies.
  • Liaising with clients, local authorities, developers and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Managing project programmes, budgets and deliverables appropriate to your level.
  • Providing technical advice throughout the planning process.
  • Attending meetings with clients, planning authorities and stakeholders.
  • Supporting planning appeals, public consultations and expert witness work where appropriate.
  • Assisting with or leading business development activities, including preparing fee proposals and contributing to client relationships.
  • Mentoring and supporting junior members of the team (for senior appointments).
  • Contributing to the continued growth and technical excellence of the Development Planning team.

About You

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:

  • A degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, Planning or a related discipline.
  • Relevant experience in development planning consultancy or a similar environment.
  • An understanding of the UK planning system and transport planning guidance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • A proactive and client-focused approach.

Experience by Level

Assistant Transport Planner

  • Around 0-2 years’ relevant experience.
  • Experience assisting with Transport Assessments, Travel Plans and technical analysis.
  • Willingness to learn and develop under the guidance of experienced colleagues.

Transport Planner / Senior Transport Planner

  • Approximately 2-6 years’ experience.
  • Able to manage elements of projects with increasing independence.
  • Experience preparing technical reports and liaising directly with clients and local authorities.
  • Working towards or holding professional membership.

Principal Transport Planner

  • Significant consultancy experience in development planning.
  • Proven ability to lead projects from inception through to completion.
  • Experience managing client relationships, mentoring staff and contributing to business development.
  • Strong commercial awareness and project management capability.
  • Chartered status or equivalent professional qualification is desirable.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience using Junctions (PICADY, ARCADY and LinSig), TRICS, TEMPro and GIS software.
  • Knowledge of active travel, sustainable transport and accessibility planning.
  • Experience of transport modelling software would be advantageous.
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution or progress towards chartership.
