Principal Transport Planner – Development Planning
Overview
We are currently seeking an experienced Principal Transport Planner to join a growing development planning team. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong and commercially aware transport planner to take a leading role in the delivery of complex development projects while supporting team growth and client development.
The successful candidate will lead on a broad range of development planning schemes across sectors including residential, mixed-use, commercial, logistics, retail, education, and regeneration projects.
Key Responsibilities
Leading the delivery of development planning projects from inception through to planning approval.
Preparing and reviewing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, Delivery & Servicing Plans, and associated technical reports.
Providing strategic transport planning advice to clients, developers, and project teams.
Managing relationships with clients, local authorities, and multidisciplinary consultants.
Leading project meetings, client presentations, and stakeholder discussions.
Overseeing technical workstreams including junction modelling, site access strategies, and sustainable transport solutions.
Supporting and mentoring junior team members and reviewing technical outputs.
Managing project programmes, financial performance, and resource allocation.
Assisting with fee proposals, tenders, and wider business development activities.
Keeping up to date with relevant planning policy, transport guidance, and industry best practice.
Requirements
Degree qualified in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or a related discipline.
Significant experience within transport planning consultancy, with a strong focus on development planning.
Proven experience managing complex projects and client relationships independently.
Strong technical knowledge of the UK planning process and development planning requirements.
Experience preparing and reviewing Transport Assessments and associated documentation.
Excellent communication, project management, and organisational skills.
Commercial awareness and experience contributing to business development activities.
Chartered status or working towards chartership with a relevant professional institution is desirable.
Desirable Experience
Experience leading and mentoring teams.
Knowledge of software such as Junctions 10, LinSig, VISSIM, or AutoCAD.
Experience across residential, strategic land, mixed-use, and major infrastructure schemes.
Existing client relationships and network within the industry.
