Planning/BC Admin Officer

Principal Planning Policy Officer
Location: Essex (Office attendance approximately once every 6 weeks or less)
Rate: £60 per hour
Contract: Initial Contract with Flexible Start Date

We are currently working with a Local Authority in Essex to recruit an experienced Principal Planning Policy Officer to support their Planning Policy team on a contract basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior planning policy professional seeking a predominantly remote role, with minimal office attendance required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading and supporting the preparation of planning policy documents, including Local Plans and supporting evidence
  • Providing expert planning policy advice to senior officers, members, and key stakeholders
  • Managing consultation processes and responding to representations
  • Supporting plan examination activities and liaising with the Planning Inspectorate where required
  • Monitoring and reviewing planning policies to ensure compliance with national and local planning frameworks
  • Preparing reports, briefing notes, and committee reports
  • Contributing to wider strategic planning and place-shaping initiatives

Requirements:

  • Significant experience within Planning Policy, ideally within a Local Authority setting
  • Proven experience of Local Plan preparation, review, or examination processes
  • Strong understanding of planning legislation, policy, and national guidance
  • Excellent report-writing, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage complex policy projects
