Principal Planning Officer – NSIPs & Solar Projects
– Midlands
Hybrid Working | £70 per hour | Interim Contract
We are currently working with a local authority seeking an experienced Principal Planning Officer to support on a portfolio of high-profile Solar and Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs).
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced planner with strong infrastructure and energy sector exposure to play a key role in the delivery and assessment of complex planning applications and major projects.
The Role
You will take the lead on major planning applications and NSIP-related matters, with a particular focus on renewable energy and solar developments. The role will involve managing complex caseloads, providing strategic planning advice, engaging with key stakeholders, and supporting the authority through major infrastructure consultations and examinations.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing and assessing major planning applications relating to solar and infrastructure developments
- Leading on NSIP consultations and responses
- Providing expert planning advice to internal teams, members, and external stakeholders
- Preparing reports, recommendations, and committee documentation
- Supporting policy and development management functions where required
- Liaising with developers, consultants, legal teams, and government bodies
Requirements
- Proven experience working on NSIPs and major infrastructure projects
- Strong understanding of planning legislation and policy
- Experience dealing with renewable energy / solar developments
- Local authority experience preferred
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- MRTPI qualification desirable
Contract Details
- £70 per hour
- Flexible hybrid working arrangement
- Initial 6-month contract with likely extension
- Outside IR35 potential depending on setup
