ICP Manager (Freelance / Self-Employed)
Location: Remote (UK) with occasional travel to project sites across England and Scotland (approximately 14 sites)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced ICP Manager to support the delivery of utility-scale renewable energy projects across the UK. Working on EPC projects within the PV (Solar) and BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) sector, you will be responsible for managing Independent Connection Provider (ICP) activities throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring electrical connection works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with programme requirements.
This is a remote-based position with regular travel to project sites across England and Scotland as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate all ICP-related activities across multiple renewable energy projects.
- Act as the primary interface between the EPC team, ICPs, DNOs, and other key stakeholders.
- Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of grid connection works.
- Monitor programme milestones and ensure ICP activities are delivered on schedule.
- Ensure compliance with UK electrical standards, health & safety requirements, and project specifications.
- Support site teams during installation, testing, commissioning, energisation, and handover.
- Identify and manage technical and programme risks relating to electrical connection works.
- Provide regular progress updates and technical support to project management teams.
Requirements
- UK citizen with the right to work as a self-employed contractor/freelancer in the UK.
- Proven experience delivering renewable energy projects, ideally within utility-scale Solar PV and/or Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
- Strong High Voltage (HV) engineering background.
- Previous experience managing Independent Connection Providers (ICPs) and grid connection activities.
- Good understanding of UK electrical infrastructure, DNO requirements, and HV commissioning processes.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Willingness to travel to project sites across England and Scotland when required.
Desirable
- Experience working on EPC renewable energy projects.
- Knowledge of National Grid and DNO connection processes.
- Relevant HV authorisations or electrical engineering qualifications.
- Project management experience within utility-scale energy infrastructure.
