The Opportunity
As a Freelance Business Controller, you will take full ownership of the controlling function within your domain, acting as a true business partner to management. This is a high-impact role where you will help shape financial and operational decision-making while supporting the organisation’s ongoing growth and professionalisation.
You will not only focus on business controlling but also play a key role in driving strategic initiatives, improving processes, and strengthening reporting and data structures across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Control & Analysis
- Analyse project performance and subsequent calculations, translating findings into clear, actionable insights for the board and management
- Monitor and assess margins, cost structures, and overall profitability
- Identify financial deviations and proactively drive corrective actions and improvement initiatives
Reporting & Performance Management
- Further develop and continuously optimise management reporting
- Set up, manage, and follow up on budgeting and forecasting processes
- Track, analyse, and interpret KPIs, ensuring alignment with business objectives
Business Partnering
- Provide data-driven insights to support both sales and operations
- Act as a key sparring partner to management, helping guide operational and commercial decisions
- Challenge stakeholders where needed and offer constructive, critical input
Data & Process Optimisation
- Bring structure and consistency to data, reporting, and internal processes
- Work closely with the Accounting Manager to improve cost control, data quality, and financial processes
- Analyse operational and HR data (e.g. personnel costs, productivity, staffing efficiency)
Strategic & Development Initiatives
- Contribute to process optimisation and further professionalisation of the organisation
- Support the development of ESG and sustainability reporting
- Take an active role in initiatives that strengthen business performance beyond finance
Your Profile
- Master’s degree in Finance, Applied Economics, Commercial Engineering, or similar
- 5+ years’ experience in controlling, audit, or financial analysis
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate data into actionable insights
- Experience with ERP systems (preferably Microsoft Dynamics)
- Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with reporting tools
