The Team

Planning is one of the largest and most established departments within the business and is recognised as one of the leading planning teams in the UK.

The Commercial Planning team advises a broad range of major developers, operators, financial institutions, and landowners across sectors including:

  • Retail and leisure
  • Industrial and logistics
  • Data centres
  • Life sciences and R&D
  • Roadside services
  • Town centre regeneration

The successful candidate will have exposure to a diverse range of high-profile commercial projects, with particular focus on retail and leisure, industrial and logistics, and data centres.

The team is led by six Partners and offers excellent long-term career progression, with a strong track record of developing talent from graduate through to Partner level.

The Opportunity

This role offers an excellent opportunity for an ambitious planner to join a busy and growing commercial planning team. The successful candidate will work closely with multiple Partners across a broad variety of projects, gaining wide-ranging experience while also having the opportunity to develop sector specialisms.

The position offers regular direct exposure to clients, consultants, and local authorities, providing exceptional professional development opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on experience level, responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting Partners in developing planning strategies and managing project programmes
  • Preparing, reviewing, and coordinating planning applications, appeals, and representations
  • Providing planning advice to clients and leading internal and external project meetings
  • Building client relationships and contributing to business development initiatives across target sectors
  • Assisting with fee proposals and project budget management
  • Supporting and mentoring junior members of the team
  • Contributing to team innovation, including the integration of AI and new working practices as part of ongoing professional development initiatives

Candidate Requirements

The client is seeking a commercially minded planner with a strong focus on delivering excellent client service.

Applicants should ideally possess:

  • RTPI and/or RICS (Planning & Development) qualification
  • Experience within commercial planning environments
  • Retail policy assessment experience (preferred)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A collaborative approach and ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams
