About the Company
A specialist infrastructure planning and development consultancy is seeking an experienced Associate Town Planner to join its growing London team. The consultancy advises on complex nationally significant infrastructure projects across the UK, working on schemes within the energy, transport, utilities, and regeneration sectors.
This is an opportunity to work on high-profile Development Consent Order (DCO) projects within a collaborative and technically strong environment.
The Role
The successful candidate will lead and support the delivery of major infrastructure and DCO projects from early-stage strategy through to examination and consent. The role will involve working closely with clients, technical consultants, legal teams, and public sector stakeholders on nationally significant developments.
This position is ideally suited to a commercially minded planner with strong infrastructure planning experience and detailed knowledge of the UK planning system and DCO process.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead planning workstreams on major infrastructure and DCO projects
- Manage and coordinate multidisciplinary consultant teams
- Prepare and review planning strategy documents, Statements of Common Ground, consultation materials, and planning submissions
- Advise clients on planning risk, consenting strategy, and stakeholder engagement
- Support the preparation and examination of Development Consent Order applications
- Manage client relationships and contribute to business development activities
- Mentor and support junior planning staff
- Liaise with local authorities, statutory consultees, government bodies, and legal teams
Requirements
- Degree and/or postgraduate qualification in Town Planning or related discipline
- MRTPI qualified (or equivalent professional accreditation)
- Significant experience working on major infrastructure or DCO projects in the UK
- Strong understanding of the Planning Act 2008 and NSIP consenting regime
- Excellent report writing, project management, and communication skills
- Commercial awareness and experience managing client relationships
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively
