(ZZP) Mechanical Installations & Stations engineer (WTB) – Utrecht (Hybrid) – 1+ Year project
We are urgently looking for an experienced WTB/Mechanical engineer to provide hands on engineering and design expertise for Hydrogen stations.
Location: Utrecht or Groningen – 2 day onsite
Hours: 24–40 hours/week
Contract: ZZP / freelance
Start: 1st November
End date: 31 December 2027

Key Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical engineering concepts, functional designs, basic designs and technical specifications for hydrogen stations and installations.
- Perform basic mechanical checks/assessments and supervise external engineering partners.
- Review and assess designs and technical deliverables for technical compliance and Relevant StandardsÂ
- Apply relevant mechanical engineering standards, legislation, regulations and technical norms.
- Coordinate mechanical engineering activities with other disciplines, project teams, internal stakeholders and external engineering companies.
- Monitor engineering progress, quality and deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.
- Contribute substantively to multidisciplinary project teams and technical decision-making.
Essential Requirements
- Demonstrable experience in mechanical engineering/ design and WTB
- Experience with stations, installations and/or smaller mechanical installations.
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary engineering/project environment.
- Experience developing, reviewing and assessing engineering designs against applicable standards and technical requirements.
- Experience coordinating technical work with engineers, designers, other disciplines and external engineering partners.
- Knowledge of relevant mechanical engineering standards, legislation and technical norms.
- Able to work independently within the mechanical discipline while contributing effectively to a wider project team.
You should be able to:
- Take ownership of mechanical engineering deliverables.
- Analyze technical information and identify key issues and dependencies.
- Work effectively with multiple engineering disciplines and external partners.
- Maintain focus on mechanical installations and relevant StandardsÂ
- Communicate technical matters clearly and convert issues into concrete actions and solutions.
- Experience with installations and/or stations.
