Tree Officer (Planning) | Surrey Local Authority
£40–£50 per hour | 2 Days per Week | Hybrid Working
We’re working with a well-regarded Surrey local authority looking to appoint an experienced Tree Officer on an interim basis to support their busy Development Management team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced arboricultural professional looking for a flexible part-time role, offering 2 days per week with fortnightly site visits and the remainder of the work completed remotely.
The Role
You’ll be the Council’s specialist advisor on arboricultural matters, providing expert guidance to Planning Officers and ensuring the protection and enhancement of the borough’s tree stock. The role centres on advising on planning applications, managing Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) and providing technical arboricultural advice in accordance with planning legislation. A
Key Responsibilities
- Provide arboricultural advice on a varied caseload of planning applications.
- Assess the impact of development proposals on protected trees and woodland.
- Manage and advise on Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) and trees within Conservation Areas.
- Undertake fortnightly site visits to assess trees and development proposals.
- Work closely with Development Management Officers, applicants and consultees to achieve positive planning outcomes.
- Produce clear technical reports and recommendations to support planning decisions.
About You
- Proven experience working as a Tree Officer or Arboricultural Officer within a UK local authority.
- Strong knowledge of planning legislation relating to trees, TPOs and BS5837.
- Confident advising Development Management teams on planning applications.
- Professional Arboricultural qualification (Level 4 or above desirable).
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
