About the role
Our client, is looking for a Software Engineer to join its team on a freelance contract. The role focuses on extending and maintaining the software that drives wafer and panel metrology products, the systems used to measure and inspect components during semiconductor manufacturing.
You will work across the full development cycle, from gathering requirements and analysing the problem through to implementation, testing, installation and support. Day to day, that means designing and building new features, writing automated tests, developing the tooling that supports the product and tracking down and fixing bugs.
The role also involves supporting colleagues who are not developers, as well as field engineers who use and service the systems. The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently within a small team, taking the initiative to move work forward and explaining technical points clearly to a mixed audience.
Main responsibilities
- Analyse, design and implement new features for wafer and panel metrology software
- Create automated tests to protect quality and support ongoing development
- Develop and maintain supporting tooling used by the wider team
- Analyse, diagnose and fix bugs
- Take work through the full development cycle, including requirements gathering, analysis, implementation, testing, installation and support
- Create and maintain UML models to document designs
- Provide support to non-developer team members and field engineers
- Work with version control to manage code changes and collaborate within the team
Requirements
Essential
- 3 to 10 years of experience in a software engineering role
- Good knowledge of modern C++
- Experience of using a version control system, preferably git
- Understanding of UML models and the ability to create them
- Experience of the full development cycle, from requirements to installation and support
- Good spoken and written English communication skills
- Able to work independently within a small team
- Proactive approach, with the initiative to take ownership of tasks
Desirable
- Knowledge of C# and/or Python
- Knowledge of image processing, automation or robotics
