Freelance Senior Test / Systems Engineer MIL-STD – Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany

Location: Ulm, Germany

Contract: Freelance (40 hours per week)

We are supporting a leading defence organisation in Ulm in the search for an experienced Senior Test / Systems Engineer to join a high-profile development programme focused on mission-critical defence technologies.

This role requires an initial onsite presence during onboarding and project ramp-up. Following this period, up to 100% remote working is possible, subject to project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define, execute, and support system and integration test activities.
  • Verify and validate complex systems against customer and programme requirements.
  • Analyse requirements and develop test strategies, procedures, and reports.
  • Support system integration, troubleshooting, and fault analysis.
  • Work closely with multi-disciplinary engineering teams and key stakeholders.
  • Contribute to technical reviews and system acceptance activities.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Test Engineer, Systems Engineer, or similar role within defence, aerospace, automotive, or other regulated industries.
  • Strong background in:
    • System Integration
    • Verification & Validation (V&V)
    • Requirements Engineering
    • Test Planning & Execution
    • Defect Analysis and Root Cause Investigation
  • Experience with tools such as DOORS, Polarion, Enterprise Architect, Cameo, Jira, or similar.
  • Experinece with MIL-STD-1553B and MIL-Bus 3910 (STANAG-3910)
  • Strong documentation and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Fluent German language skills
  • Ability to work onsite in Ulm during the onboarding phase.
