**Location:** Onsite – Greater Munich Area (Hybrid possible for exceptional candidates)
**Position Type:** Full-Time
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Cable Designer to join our multidisciplinary naval engineering team. You will be responsible for the end-to-end design of complex cable systems, ranging from power and signal cables to RF, fiber optics, and wire harness assemblies. This role plays a critical part in ensuring high-performance, reliable, and installation-compliant cable solutions for mission-critical naval systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze system and equipment requirements to define detailed cable specifications, including connectors, shielding, and cable types
- Design complete cable assemblies and wire harnesses, including 2D/3D layouts and routing strategies in restricted installation environments
- Develop and document cable installation procedures and interface with mechanical design to define feedthroughs and mounting hardware
- Ensure compliance with applicable naval and industrial standards for EMI/EMC, safety, and reliability
- Work closely with systems engineering and production to ensure cable designs are aligned with integration constraints and manufacturability
- Collaborate with procurement and suppliers to specify off-the-shelf and custom cable components
- Participate in design reviews, quality assessments, and troubleshooting during integration and testing
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience in cable design for complex electrical systems, ideally in naval, defense, or aerospace domains
- Proficiency in reading and creating technical drawings, cable diagrams, and connector pinouts
- Familiarity with EPLAN and/or Engineering Base; other tools accepted based on demonstrable skills
- Deep understanding of cable construction, shielding, routing, and derating in confined, EMI-sensitive environments
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective cross-functional collaboration (system engineering, mechanical, production)
- Attention to detail, rigorous approach to documentation, and strong problem-solving mindset
- Fluent in English or German
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with naval or defense standards (e.g., MIL-STDs, VG standards)
- Knowledge of EMC/EMI best practices and testing
- Hands-on experience during prototyping or integration phases
