Safety Coordinator
Position: Safety Coordinator – Level B
Location: Wallonia
Contract Type: Multi-year freelance/consultancy contract
Start Date: August 2026
Workload:
- 1 day per week initially from August 2026
- Increasing gradually to approximately 2.5 days per week by 2027 due to increased project workload
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Safety Coordinator (Level B) to support civil and pipeline infrastructure projects in Wallonia. The consultant will play a key role in overseeing construction safety compliance, environmental risk mitigation, and coordination of site safety procedures throughout project execution.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in civil engineering and pipeline environments, with the ability to proactively identify safety risks, prepare safety documentation, and advise project teams on critical operational and permitting matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain comprehensive safety plans for construction and pipeline activities
- Prepare and review method statements and safety documentation
- Identify and assess risks to personnel, assets, and the environment
- Advise project teams on permit requirements and compliance procedures
- Highlight operational weak points and recommend corrective/preventive actions
- Ensure compliance with local HSE regulations and client safety standards
- Conduct site visits and participate in safety meetings when required
- Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders on all HSE-related matters
Candidate Requirements
- Certified Safety Coordinator Level B
- Minimum 15 years of experience in construction safety coordination
- Strong background in civil engineering and pipeline projects
- Proven experience preparing safety plans and method statements
- Strong understanding of environmental risk management
- Experience advising on permits and construction safety compliance
- Ability to work independently and provide practical safety guidance on-site
Language Requirements
- French: Mandatory
- Dutch: Preferred (important for increased workload expected in 2027)
