Overview
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to support the delivery of large-scale renewable energy projects, with a particular focus on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and solar PV developments. This is a freelance contract role requiring a strong technical and commercial project management background, excellent stakeholder management skills, and experience working within complex energy infrastructure environments.
The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating project activities from planning through execution, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the delivery of large-scale BESS, solar PV, and other energy infrastructure projects.
- Coordinate project stakeholders, including clients, contractors, consultants, utilities, and grid operators.
- Manage project schedules, budgets, risks, and reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
- Administer and manage contracts, with a strong understanding of FIDIC contract frameworks.
- Ensure compliance with relevant Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) requirements and project-specific procedures.
- Liaise with transmission and distribution grid operators to support grid connection and energisation activities.
- Facilitate project meetings, progress reviews, and stakeholder communications.
- Identify and mitigate project risks, issues, and potential delays.
- Support procurement, contractor management, and project controls activities where required.
- Maintain clear project documentation and provide regular status updates to internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Requirements
- Fluent in German and English, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven project management experience within the renewable energy or power infrastructure sector.
- Strong track record delivering BESS, solar PV, or large-scale energy projects.
- Demonstrable experience working with FIDIC contracts.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication abilities.
- Strong understanding of HSE procedures and safety management within construction or energy projects.
- Experience working directly with grid operators and managing grid connection processes.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining strong collaboration with project teams.
- Eligible to work in Germany through an EU passport or German residency/work authorization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant degree in Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management, Energy or a related discipline.
- Formal project management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, IPMA) is advantageous.
- Experience working on utility-scale renewable energy projects across Germany or Europe.
