Principal Planner

Location: Remote/Hybrid Office based in Colchester (UK)
Salary: Competitive + Benefits

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Planner to join a well-established planning consultancy with a diverse portfolio of projects across the UK.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious planner looking to take on a leading role within a collaborative team. You’ll manage a varied workload, build strong client relationships and contribute to the continued success and growth of the business, while mentoring junior colleagues and supporting business development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a range of planning projects from inception through to determination.
  • Prepare planning appraisals, planning statements and supporting reports.
  • Manage planning applications, appeals and wider planning strategy.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, local authorities and key stakeholders.
  • Provide clear, commercially focused planning advice.
  • Support and mentor junior members of the planning team.
  • Contribute to business development and help identify new opportunities.

About You

  • MRTPI qualified (or working towards chartership with significant relevant experience).
  • Strong knowledge of the UK planning system.
  • Experience managing planning projects and client relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commercially aware with strong organisational and project management skills.
  • Able to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team.
  • Experience working on retail and/or industrial projects would be beneficial but is not essential.

This role would suit an experienced Senior Planner ready to step into a Principal Planner position, or an established Principal Planner looking for greater flexibility, autonomy and the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects.
