Job Title: Principal Building Inspector (Contract)

Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Principal Building Inspector to support a local authority Building Control team on a contract basis. This is a predominantly remote role, responsible for managing a varied caseload of complex building control applications, ensuring compliance with current building regulations, and providing expert technical guidance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Attend site once per week, rest can be done remotely 
• Assess and approve plans, specifications, and applications for compliance with building regulations
• Conduct site inspections where necessary to ensure works meet statutory requirements
• Provide professional advice to internal teams, developers, and stakeholders
• Manage complex and high-risk projects, offering expert oversight and decision-making
• Mentor junior staff and support team development as needed
• Ensure all work aligns with relevant legislation, standards, and local authority policies

Requirements:

• Class 2E Registered Building Inspector (or working towards)
• Extensive experience in Building Control within a local authority setting (Private sector also considered)
• Strong knowledge of current building regulations and associated legislation
• Ability to manage complex caseloads independently
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Flexible approach to occasional site attendance
