Planner / Senior Planner

Location: Cheltenham, Gloucestershire (Hybrid Working Available)

The Opportunity

Our client is an established and growing planning consultancy with an excellent reputation for delivering commercially focused planning and development advice across a diverse range of sectors. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint either a Planner or Senior Planner to join their collaborative team based in Cheltenham.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on a varied portfolio of projects including residential, commercial, rural, heritage and mixed-use developments, supporting clients from initial site appraisals through to planning permissions and appeals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied portfolio of planning projects from inception through to determination.
  • Prepare and submit planning applications, appeals, lawful development certificates, prior approval applications and listed building consent applications.
  • Produce high-quality Planning Statements, Design & Access Statements and site appraisals.
  • Provide commercially focused planning advice to a broad client base.
  • Assess development opportunities and undertake planning research.
  • Liaise with Local Planning Authorities, consultees, architects and other technical consultants.
  • Attend client meetings, site visits and planning committee meetings where required.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Support and mentor junior team members (Senior Planner level).

About You

Planner

  • RTPI accredited degree in Town Planning or a related discipline.
  • Working towards MRTPI or recently achieved Chartered status.
  • Approximately 2-5 years’ planning experience within consultancy or local authority.
  • Strong report writing and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively.

Senior Planner

In addition to the above:

  • MRTPI qualified.
  • Typically 5+ years’ professional planning experience.
  • Experience managing complex planning applications and appeals.
  • Confidence in leading projects and building client relationships.
  • Experience mentoring junior planners is desirable.
  • Commercial awareness and a proactive approach to business development.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong technical planning knowledge.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commercially aware with a client-focused approach.
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Full UK driving licence is desirable.
