Medior Power BI Developer (Freelance) – Mechelen, Belgium
Location: Mechelen, Belgium
Contract: Freelance
Start date: ASAP
Duration: Until the end of the year, with the possibility of extending into January
Working pattern: Hybrid, 2 days per week on-site

About the role
Our client is a public sector organisation in Mechelen, and is looking for a freelance Medior Power BI Developer to take over its Power BI reporting for the coming months. Power BI is central to how the organisation works, and the reporting and data behind it are business critical, so the role calls for someone who can take ownership from the first day.
The business brings a steady flow of reporting questions, and you will be the person who turns them into clear, reliable dashboards. That means speaking directly with colleagues to understand what they need, running a proper needs analysis, and translating the outcome into the right data and visuals. You will check that the numbers are logical and consistent before they reach the business, and you will keep reports accurate and in order as requirements change.
You will work in parallel with a data warehouse consultant who focuses on the data in the underlying systems, so you will translate business needs into technical requirements and keep the two sides aligned. The role is hybrid, with two days a week on-site, and suits someone who is as comfortable talking to the business as working through the data.
Main responsibilities
- Take ownership of existing Power BI dashboards and reports and keep them running reliably
- Build new dashboards and reports in response to requests from the business
- Carry out needs analysis with stakeholders and translate their questions into reporting requirements
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications in collaboration with the data warehouse consultant
- Carry out data checks and validation to make sure figures are accurate and logical
- Support data controlling activities so that reporting data is consistent and in order
- Present data in a clear story that business users can act on
- Answer reporting questions from across the organisation and support colleagues in using the dashboards
