Mechanical Engineer – Medior/Senior

Location: Tiel, Netherlands
Contract: 4–5 months, with an immediate start preferred
Working model: Typically 4 days onsite / 1 day remote
Level: Medior / Senior
Openings: Up to 2

About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to join a mechanical engineering team during an important phase of a vehicle development programme.

The major design decisions have already been made. The focus now is on the final 90% of the engineering work: resolving outstanding technical issues, cleaning up documentation, supporting manufacturing, and making sure the design is ready to be manufactured and industrialised.

This is a role for someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves, understanding what needs to be done, and getting it done. There is no single defined task list — the team needs an experienced engineer who can identify what needs attention, take ownership, and move things forward.

What You’ll Be Doing

Your day-to-day work will involve a mixture of mechanical engineering, documentation and manufacturing support, including:

  • Completing and refining existing mechanical designs.
  • Creating and updating 2D and 3D drawings and schematics.
  • Working with SolidWorks and supporting engineering tools.
  • Working with PLM systems and engineering documentation.
  • Resolving outstanding part numbers and documentation issues.
  • Cleaning up and completing engineering documentation required for manufacturing.
  • Working closely with manufacturing to resolve practical engineering issues.
  • Supporting the transition from engineering design towards a more manufacturable and industrialised product.
  • Reviewing existing work and identifying what still needs to be completed.
  • Working across a range of mechanical engineering topics rather than focusing on one narrowly defined task.
  • Contributing to a matrix engineering organisation, working alongside the Mechanical Lead Engineer, Vehicle Architect and other specialists.

    Technical Requirements

    Essential

    • Solid mechanical engineering experience.
    • Strong experience with SolidWorks or a comparable 3D CAD package.
    • Experience producing and working with 2D and 3D engineering drawings.
    • Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical tasks.
    • Experience working with engineering documentation and manufacturing interfaces.

    Nice to Have

    • Experience with PLM systems.
    • Experience with 3DEXPERIENCE / 3DX.
    • Experience supporting manufacturing or industrialisation.
    • Experience working on vehicles or complex mechanical systems.

Hydraulics experience would be a particular advantage, but the core requirement is strong mechanical engineering capability.

    Working Environment

You will work as part of a mechanical engineering team, led by a Lead Engineer and operating within a wider matrix organisation.

The Vehicle Architect and Lead Engineer provide the overall technical direction, while the mechanical team is responsible for delivering and resolving the detailed engineering work required to move the vehicle towards manufacturing.

The team is currently facing a capacity challenge, so the successful candidate will have an immediate impact. This is not a role where you will be given one isolated project and asked to work on it for several months — there is a broad range of engineering work that needs to be completed and brought to a good standard.

    Language

The company is Dutch-speaking, although most technical documentation is in English and the organisation has experience working with international, non-Dutch-speaking engineers.

Dutch is therefore preferred but not essential.

      Interview Process

The preferred process is practical and straightforward.

Candidates would be invited onsite for approximately one hour, starting with an informal introduction and coffee, followed by a small engineering assignment. The assignment is intended not simply to test technical knowledge, but to understand the candidate’s thinking process, approach to problems and ability to turn an engineering challenge into a practical solution.

      Compensation

The target rate is preferably below €75 per hour, depending on experience and profile.

The key consideration is finding someone who can come in, quickly understand the challenges, and make a tangible contribution to getting the remaining engineering work completed.

      In short

We are looking for a strong mechanical “doer” — someone who can come in, roll up their sleeves, clean things up, solve problems, support manufacturing and get the final 90% of the engineering work over the line.
