For a banking customer in Brussels, we are searching for an interim Head of Legal to lead and mentor a team of 4 specialized Legal Advisors (payments, tax, GDPR, civil law, etc.).
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality legal support: contract review, analysis, and advice to operational departments.
- Monitor developments in Belgian banking and financial regulations, as well as relevant provisions of the Code of Economic Law (mortgage loans, consumer credit, trade practices, etc.).
- Propose pragmatic, solution-oriented interpretations.
- Organize the distribution of files and ensure the quality and consistency of deliverables.
- Support the skills development and professional growth of team members.
- Coordinate the implementation of impactful regulations in collaboration with the Head of Legal & Compliance.
- Collaborate closely with the Head of Legal & Compliance.
- Participate in the bank’s cross-functional projects to ensure compliance.
- Act as a liaison between the team and other departments, bringing a constructive and pragmatic perspective.
Profile
- Master’s degree in Law, ideally with a specialization or experience in banking law, economic law, or credit law.
- 5 to 7 years of relevant professional experience, including proven team management experience.
- Good knowledge of the banking sector and Belgian financial regulations.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders.
- Critical thinking, attention to detail, and a solution-oriented mindset; comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
