Interim Fire Safety Operations Manager (3-Month Contract) – University in London

Location: London
Contract Duration: 3 months
Daily Rate: £400-£425 per day

A prestigious University in London is seeking an experienced Interim Fire Safety Operations Manager to join their Estates & Facilities team for an exciting 3-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity to support and manage fire safety operations across a diverse and complex estate while ensuring compliance with fire safety legislation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert fire safety advice to senior management, ensuring compliance with key legislation such as the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Fire Safety Act 2021, Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022, and Building Safety Act 2022.
  • Support the Assistant Director for Engineering and Estates in delivering both proactive and reactive fire safety programs.
  • Act as the accepting authority for all fire safety-related works, overseeing a comprehensive portfolio of fire strategies across both residential and non-residential University buildings.
  • Lead on the implementation of fire risk assessment actions and fire safety audits, collaborating with relevant duty holders.
  • Chair the Estates & Facilities Fire Safety Strategy Group (FSSG), providing leadership on fire safety matters in operational meetings, including Health & Safety, Estates, and Residential teams.
  • Work closely with Capital Projects to ensure compliance with fire safety legislation, best practice, and statutory guidance on new developments.
  • Investigate all fire-related incidents, preparing detailed reports and identifying actions to prevent recurrence, sharing learning points with the Fire Safety Compliance Manager.
  • Prepare reports on operational fire safety across the University, including annual reports for the Director of Health & Safety.
  • Liaise effectively with internal departments such as Health & Safety, Residencies, and Housing to promote fire safety across all operations.
  • Manage contracts and contractors delivering planned and reactive fire safety maintenance, ensuring the highest standards are met.
  • Develop and deliver technical fire safety guidance and training to Estates & Facilities staff.
  • Support colleagues in the response to operational incidents and undertake other fire safety-related duties as required.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in fire safety management, ideally within a complex multi-building environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK fire safety legislation, including the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Fire Safety Act 2021, and the Building Safety Act 2022.
  • Strong leadership skills, with experience in managing fire safety teams and working with senior management.
  • Experience in delivering fire risk assessments and audits, and implementing fire safety programs.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present fire safety issues clearly to diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills with experience in managing contractors and projects.
