Housing Options Officer

Location: Hertfordshire (Hybrid – 2 days per week in the office)
Contract: 3 Months Initially
Rate: £27–£29 per hour (Umbrella)
Start Date: ASAP

A Local Authority in Hertfordshire is looking to appoint an experienced Housing Options Officer to join their busy Housing Needs team on an initial 3-month contract, with an excellent chance of extension.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive team dealing with a varied caseload and making a real difference to residents facing homelessness.

Key Responsibilities

• Managing a caseload of homelessness applications in line with the Housing Act 1996 (as amended by the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017).

• Conducting detailed housing needs assessments and producing Personalised Housing Plans (PHPs).

• Making statutory decisions, including Section 184 decisions.

• Working proactively to prevent and relieve homelessness.

• Liaising with internal departments and external agencies to secure positive outcomes for applicants.

• Providing high-quality housing advice and ensuring compliance with current homelessness legislation.

Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years’ experience working as a Housing Options Officer within a Local Authority.

• Strong working knowledge of homelessness legislation and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.

• Proven experience completing Section 184 decisions and managing complex homelessness cases.

• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.

• Excellent communication and case management skills.
