Graduate Planning Consultant

Location: Midlands (Office-based with Agile Working)

I’m currently working with a well-established multi-disciplinary property and planning consultancy that is looking to appoint a Graduate Planning Consultant to join its growing planning team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate, or someone with up to a couple of years’ planning experience, to join a respected consultancy with a strong reputation across the Midlands. The business provides planning, architecture, building surveying, valuation and business consultancy services, offering plenty of scope to work alongside professionals from a range of disciplines.

The planning team works on a diverse portfolio of projects, from householder applications and rural diversification schemes through to major residential, commercial and strategic developments. You’ll gain exposure to all stages of the planning process while receiving structured support towards your RTPI qualification.

The Role

As a Graduate Planning Consultant, you’ll be involved in a wide variety of planning projects and will have the opportunity to develop your technical knowledge, client-facing skills and commercial awareness within a supportive team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake planning research and prepare planning submissions for a range of development projects.
  • Assist in the preparation of planning statements, appraisals and professional reports.
  • Manage smaller planning applications while supporting senior planners on larger and more complex schemes.
  • Liaise with clients, local authorities and key stakeholders throughout the planning process.
  • Attend site visits and contribute to planning advice and development strategies.
  • Work closely with colleagues across planning, surveying, architecture and engineering teams on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Build relationships with a varied client base including developers, landowners, farmers, investors and private clients.
  • Progress towards RTPI Chartership through ongoing professional development and funded training.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • A degree in Town Planning or a related discipline such as Geography.
  • An ambition to work towards RTPI accreditation (support provided).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

What’s on Offer?

  • Competitive salary, dependent on experience.
  • Full support towards an RTPI-accredited Master’s qualification, including funded study and day release.
  • Private healthcare.
  • Employee Assistance Programme and wellbeing support.
  • 35 days annual leave including bank holidays.
  • Additional birthday leave.
  • Extra holiday entitlement linked to length of service.
  • Discretionary bonus scheme.
  • Enhanced pension.
  • Employee discounts following probation.
  • Electric vehicle salary sacrifice and Cycle to Work schemes.
  • Agile working with flexible hours.
  • Excellent career progression within an established and growing consultancy.

If you’re looking to kick-start your planning career with a consultancy offering genuine development opportunities, varied project work and long-term progression, I’d be happy to tell you more. Apply today or get in touch for a confidential discussion.
