Job Title: Functional Safety System Engineer (AGV/Forklift Certification – ISO 3691)
Location: Munich, Germany
Contract Duration: 12 Months
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Functional Safety System Engineer to support the development, verification, testing, and documentation processes required to achieve ISO 3691 certification for Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV) and forklifts. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams in a warehouse environment in Munich and Denver (USA) and collaborate with TÜV to ensure compliance with functional safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support the development of AGV/forklift safety systems in compliance with ISO 3691 and other relevant standards.
- Perform risk assessments and develop safety concepts to mitigate identified hazards.
- Conduct verification and validation (V&V) activities, including safety analysis, fault tree analysis (FTA), failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), and hardware/software testing.
- Work hands-on in the warehouse environment to oversee safety-critical system tests and data collection.
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive technical documentation to support certification efforts, including safety case reports, requirements specifications, and test plans.
- Act as the primary liaison with TÜV and other regulatory bodies to ensure compliance and facilitate audits.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware, software, and test engineers, to drive safety requirements implementation and compliance.
- Support system-level troubleshooting and root cause analysis for safety-related issues.
- Stay up to date with industry best practices and standards for functional safety in warehouse automation and material handling applications.
Required Qualifications:
- Proven experience in functional safety engineering within the AGV, forklift, or warehouse automation industry.
- Strong understanding of ISO 3691 standards and functional safety processes.
- Hands-on experience with safety-critical system development, verification, and validation methodologies.
- Familiarity with TÜV certification processes and regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency in safety analysis techniques such as FMEA, FTA, and hazard analysis.
- Experience working with safety-related hardware and software components, including sensors, controllers, and actuators.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; German proficiency is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a hands-on warehouse environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with safety standards such as ISO 3691 ,ISO 13849, IEC 61508, or IEC 62061.
- Knowledge of robotics, automation systems, or autonomous vehicle technologies.
- Familiarity with tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, or similar modelling and simulation software.
Contract Details:
- Duration: 12-month contract with the possibility of extension based on project needs.
- Location: On-site in Munich, Germany.
- Working Environment: Hands-on work in a warehouse environment with occasional travel to supplier or test sites as required.
