Freelance Finance Manager (12+ Month Contract) – Brussels, Belgium
Position Overview
Our client, a leading international organisation based in Brussels, is seeking an experienced Finance Manager to join their team on an initial 12-month contract, with the possibility of extension. This role will be responsible for driving financial performance, supporting strategic decision-making, and ensuring robust financial controls across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Business Support
- Partner closely with senior leadership and department heads to provide strategic financial guidance and support business objectives.
- Lead the annual budgeting process, periodic forecasting activities, and long-term financial planning.
- Deliver meaningful financial analysis and actionable recommendations to improve profitability, operational performance, and business growth.
- Support leadership teams in evaluating business opportunities and investment decisions.
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee the preparation and delivery of accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, local regulatory requirements, and internal control procedures.
- Manage cash flow forecasting, liquidity management, and working capital optimisation.
- Coordinate internal and external audit activities and ensure timely implementation of corrective actions where required.
- Drive continuous improvement of financial processes, reporting capabilities, and finance systems.
Commercial Finance & Performance Analysis
- Provide financial support to operational teams regarding pricing strategies, contract performance, commercial proposals, and cost management initiatives.
- Track and analyse key performance indicators, including profitability, productivity, labour costs, overhead expenditure, and customer retention metrics.
- Develop financial models and scenario-based analyses to support strategic decision-making.
- Identify and implement opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies alongside business stakeholders.
Governance, Risk & Compliance
- Maintain effective financial governance and internal control frameworks.
- Identify potential financial and operational risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
- Promote high standards of ethics, transparency, and financial accountability throughout the organisation.
- Support compliance with corporate policies and regulatory obligations.
Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop members of the finance team, including accountants, analysts, and finance professionals.
- Encourage a culture of collaboration, continuous development, and high performance.
- Clarify responsibilities, establish development plans, and support succession planning within the finance function.
Candidate Profile
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in finance, accounting, financial control, or business partnering roles.
- Previous experience in a Finance Manager or similar leadership position.
- Strong understanding of IFRS and local accounting regulations.
- Experience operating within an international or matrix-managed environment.
- Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and communicate effectively with senior management.
- Strong knowledge of ERP systems, ideally Microsoft Dynamics NAV, Dynamics 365, or SAP.
- Advanced Excel and financial modelling capabilities.
- Fluency in English is essential; French and/or Dutch would be highly advantageous.
