Embedded Linux Engineer – EVerest Platform

Vivid Resourcing

Location: Remote
Contract: Freelance
Start date: 1 November
Duration: Until May, with possible extension
Working pattern: 40 hours per week

About the role

Our client is a technology-driven organisation in the EV charging industry. They need a freelance Embedded Linux Engineer to help with a project built on the EVerest platform, the open-source software stack used across EV charging infrastructure. The project centres on existing software, so you’ll be stabilising and improving a live codebase rather than building from scratch.

You’ll debug and analyse technical issues, test the software and work out the root cause of instability. This means getting to grips with existing code quickly, reviewing test results and turning what you find into reliable fixes. The goal is software that behaves predictably within the EVerest ecosystem.

The role is fully remote and runs full time at 40 hours per week. It starts on 1 November and runs until May, with a possible extension. It suits an Embedded Linux engineer who works independently, is analytical by nature and has hands-on EVerest experience to start contributing from the first week.

Main responsibilities
  • Debug and troubleshoot software issues within an Embedded Linux environment built on EVerest
  • Analyse technical problems to find root causes and propose sound solutions
  • Plan, run and review software tests, and interpret the results
  • Get up to speed quickly with the existing codebase and system architecture
  • Help stabilise the system by fixing defects and improving reliability
  • Work with open-source components and keep changes in line with the wider EVerest ecosystem
  • Document findings, fixes and test outcomes clearly so the wider team can follow progress
Requirements

Essential

  • Experience with Embedded Linux and open-source software
  • Hands-on experience with the EVerest platform
  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Experience running software tests and analysing test results
  • Able to understand existing software quickly and contribute to system stabilisation
  • Analytical, proactive and comfortable working independently
  • Available for 40 hours per week from 1 November

Desirable

  • Experience with C/C++
  • Background in embedded software development
The offer
  • Freelance engagement starting 1 November
  • Runs until May, with a possible extension
  • Fully remote working
  • 40 hours per week
  • Rate to be confirmed with candidates
  • Direct impact on software used in EV charging technology

This freelance role suits an Embedded Linux engineer with EVerest experience who enjoys finding the cause of a problem and fixing it properly. You’ll work remotely and make an existing EV charging platform more stable and reliable. If you have the EVerest background and are available from November, apply below.
