About the Client
Our client is delivering a major hyperscale data centre programme across Europe and is seeking an experienced Design Manager to support the delivery of Stage 5 design activities. Based full-time in Mainz, Germany, this role will be responsible for managing BIM and design teams, coordinating stakeholders, and ensuring design deliverables are successfully progressed through the final stages of the project lifecycle. Occasional travel to Norway will be required to support project activities and client engagement.
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Design Manager with a strong background in data centre projects and Stage 5 design delivery. The successful candidate will lead a team of BIM coordinators, BIM modellers, and designers while acting as a key interface between the client, consultants, and project teams.
The ideal candidate will have a strong project management approach to BIM coordination, experience managing design decision logs, and the ability to drive design coordination meetings through to successful delivery. Previous hyperscale or mission-critical data centre experience is essential.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage Stage 5 design activities for a hyperscale data centre project
- Manage and coordinate a team of BIM coordinators, BIM modellers, and design professionals
- Drive BIM coordination across multiple disciplines and ensure alignment between design teams and project stakeholders
- Maintain and manage design decision logs, ensuring actions are tracked and closed out effectively
- Chair and participate in client-facing design coordination meetings
- Review design deliverables to ensure quality, compliance, and project requirements are achieved
- Coordinate design interfaces between consultants, contractors, and client representatives
- Monitor project progress, design programmes, and key deliverables
- Identify and resolve design clashes, risks, and coordination issues
- Support the implementation of BIM processes, standards, and project workflows
- Provide regular updates and reports to project leadership and client teams
- Ensure design packages are delivered in line with programme milestones and project objectives
Candidate Requirements
- 5+ years’ experience in Design Management, BIM Management, or Design Coordination roles
- Previous experience delivering Stage 5 design packages on large-scale construction projects
- Proven data centre, mission-critical, or hyperscale project experience
- Strong experience managing BIM teams and multidisciplinary design coordination activities
- Excellent understanding of BIM processes, workflows, and project delivery standards
- Experience managing design decision logs, RFIs, and design governance processes
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to lead client-facing meetings
- Project management mindset with the ability to drive deliverables and coordinate multiple workstreams
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Fluent English required
- German language skills beneficial but not essential
- Able to work full-time from the Mainz office with occasional travel to Norway
