Overview

We are seeking an experienced Council Tax Officer for a short-term 2-month contract, fully remote, to support the administration and processing of council tax accounts during a period of increased workload.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain council tax accounts accurately and efficiently.
  • Process council tax billing, discounts, exemptions, and account amendments.
  • Handle enquiries from residents and stakeholders via telephone, email, and correspondence.
  • Assess and process changes in circumstances in line with council tax legislation.
  • Manage recovery and arrears processes where required.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and council policies.
  • Work independently to meet service targets and deadlines.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience working within a local authority council tax team.
  • Strong working knowledge of council tax legislation and administration processes.
  • Proven experience using Academy Revenues and Benefits software.
  • Ability to process work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.

Desirable

  • Experience handling recovery, enforcement, or tribunal-related work.
  • Previous experience in a high-volume local authority environment.
  • Knowledge of wider revenues and benefits functions.

Deliverables

  • Effective management of allocated caseload.
  • Timely processing of council tax transactions.
  • Maintenance of service levels and compliance standards throughout the contract period.

This role would suit an immediately available Council Tax Officer who can quickly integrate into the team and contribute from day one.
