Associate Transport Planner – Development Planning

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and commercially aware Associate Transport Planner to join our growing Development Planning team in Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional to lead on a diverse portfolio of residential, commercial, mixed-use, logistics, education, and regeneration projects across the North West and wider UK.
You will play a key role in managing client relationships, delivering high-quality transport planning advice, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to business development activities. The successful candidate will combine strong technical capability with leadership and project management experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage development planning projects from inception through to delivery
- Prepare and oversee Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, Access Appraisals, and supporting technical documents
- Provide strategic transport advice to private and public sector clients
- Manage project teams, budgets, programmes, and resource allocation
- Liaise with local authorities, developers, architects, and multidisciplinary teams
- Support planning applications, appeals, and public consultations
- Mentor and develop junior members of the transport planning team
- Contribute to business development, networking, and client relationship management
- Support bids, fee proposals, and framework opportunities
- Ensure technical excellence and compliance with relevant standards and guidance
Requirements
- Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or a related discipline
- Significant experience within transport planning or development planning consultancy
- Strong understanding of UK planning policy and transport guidance
- Proven experience delivering development planning projects
- Excellent report writing and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and client relationships effectively
- Experience engaging with local authorities and stakeholders
- Chartered status or working towards chartership (CIHT, TPS, ICE or similar) desirable
- Proficiency in industry software such as Junctions 10, LinSig, TRICS, or similar beneficial
