Associate Transport Planner – Development Planning

Location: Manchester
Type: Full-time, Permanent

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and commercially aware Associate Transport Planner to join our growing Development Planning team in Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional to lead on a diverse portfolio of residential, commercial, mixed-use, logistics, education, and regeneration projects across the North West and wider UK.

You will play a key role in managing client relationships, delivering high-quality transport planning advice, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to business development activities. The successful candidate will combine strong technical capability with leadership and project management experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage development planning projects from inception through to delivery
  • Prepare and oversee Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, Access Appraisals, and supporting technical documents
  • Provide strategic transport advice to private and public sector clients
  • Manage project teams, budgets, programmes, and resource allocation
  • Liaise with local authorities, developers, architects, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Support planning applications, appeals, and public consultations
  • Mentor and develop junior members of the transport planning team
  • Contribute to business development, networking, and client relationship management
  • Support bids, fee proposals, and framework opportunities
  • Ensure technical excellence and compliance with relevant standards and guidance

Requirements

  • Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or a related discipline
  • Significant experience within transport planning or development planning consultancy
  • Strong understanding of UK planning policy and transport guidance
  • Proven experience delivering development planning projects
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and client relationships effectively
  • Experience engaging with local authorities and stakeholders
  • Chartered status or working towards chartership (CIHT, TPS, ICE or similar) desirable
  • Proficiency in industry software such as Junctions 10, LinSig, TRICS, or similar beneficial
