Job Title: Associate Planner
Location: Birmingham (Hybrid Working)

About Our Client

Our client is a well-established and highly respected planning consultancy with a strong presence across the UK. They advise developers, landowners, investors, housebuilders, and public sector clients on a wide range of planning matters, delivering commercially focused solutions across residential, commercial, mixed-use, regeneration, and strategic development projects.

Due to continued growth within their Birmingham office, they are looking to appoint an experienced Associate Planner to help lead projects, strengthen client relationships, and support the ongoing growth of the business.

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious planning professional to take on a senior role within a collaborative and growing team. You will lead a diverse portfolio of planning projects, provide strategic planning advice to clients, mentor junior team members, and play an active role in business development.

Working across a broad range of sectors, you’ll be involved in managing complex planning applications and appeals while contributing to the continued success of the Birmingham office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a varied portfolio of planning applications, appeals, and pre-application enquiries.

  • Provide strategic planning advice to clients across residential, commercial, mixed-use, and regeneration developments.

  • Develop planning strategies to maximise development potential and manage planning risk.

  • Prepare and review planning statements, appeal documentation, and supporting reports.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, local authorities, consultants, and key stakeholders.

  • Manage project programmes, budgets, and client expectations to ensure successful project delivery.

  • Mentor and support junior planners, providing technical guidance and career development.

  • Contribute to business development activities, networking, and identifying new opportunities.

  • Stay up to date with changes in planning legislation, policy, and industry best practice.

About You

  • MRTPI qualified.

  • Significant experience within a planning consultancy or local authority environment.

  • Strong knowledge of the UK planning system and development management process.

  • Proven experience managing complex planning applications and client relationships.

  • Commercially aware with the ability to identify opportunities and deliver value to clients.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and report-writing skills.

  • Experience mentoring junior planners and supporting team development.

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
