About the Client

Our client is a leading biotechnology company based in Wallonia, operating in a highly regulated industrial and production environment. The organisation is running a long-term industrial transformation project aimed at ensuring the stability, performance, and compliance of its IT and OT (Operational Technology) infrastructure supporting manufacturing and process automation.

The client places strong emphasis on system reliability, security, validation, and operational continuity, with IT systems tightly integrated into industrial platforms such as Siemens PCS 7.


Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Wintel Engineer to support a long-term industrial project within a biotechnology environment. You will play a key role in maintaining, operating, and evolving the Windows-based infrastructure that underpins critical industrial systems.

The role requires strong hands-on expertise in Wintel environments, VMware technologies, and the ability to work effectively with Siemens PCS 7 platforms in an industrial context. You will collaborate closely with infrastructure, automation, and industrial IT teams to ensure stable and compliant operations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, operate, and support Wintel-based infrastructure (Windows Server environments) in an industrial/biotech context.

  • Administer and maintain virtualised environments using VMware products (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, etc.).

  • Support infrastructure components hosting or interacting with Siemens PCS 7 systems and related industrial platforms.

  • Ensure high availability, performance, and reliability of systems supporting production and industrial processes.

  • Participate in infrastructure upgrades, patching, lifecycle management, and capacity planning.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex incidents across Windows, virtualisation, and industrial IT environments.

  • Work closely with automation engineers, OT teams, and validation teams to ensure alignment between IT and industrial requirements.

  • Apply security, backup, and recovery best practices in a regulated biotechnology environment.

  • Contribute to documentation, procedures, and operational guidelines in line with industry and compliance standards.

  • Support long-term project activities with a focus on stability, sustainability, and continuous improvement.


Technical Environment (incl. but not limited to)

  • Windows Server (Wintel environments)

  • VMware (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, related products)

  • Siemens PCS 7 and associated industrial platforms

  • Industrial IT / OT environments

  • Backup, monitoring, and patch management tools

  • Regulated / validated environments (biotech or industrial)


Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Wintel Engineer in enterprise or industrial environments.

  • Strong hands-on expertise with Windows Server and VMware technologies.

  • Practical experience working with or supporting Siemens PCS 7 platforms is essential.

  • Experience in industrial, manufacturing, or biotechnology environments is a strong asset.

  • Good understanding of infrastructure operations, availability, and system reliability.

  • Ability to work autonomously in a freelance setup while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in complex environments.

  • Fluent in French (spoken and written).

  • English is a strong plus.
