Tree Officer – 6-Month Contract

Location: Staffordshire – weekly site presence required
Contract: 6 months
Rate: Negotiable, dependent on experience

We are seeking an experienced Tree Officer to join our team on an initial 6-month contract, supporting a range of tree management and planning matters across Staffordshire.

The role will focus primarily on Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) and trees within Conservation Areas, providing professional advice, assessing applications and ensuring appropriate tree protection and management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and process applications relating to Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) and Conservation Areas.
  • Undertake tree inspections and site visits across Staffordshire.
  • Provide professional arboricultural advice to planning officers, applicants, residents and other stakeholders.
  • Assess proposed works to protected trees and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Prepare clear, accurate reports, consultation responses and decisions.
  • Assist with enforcement and investigation of unauthorised tree works where required.
  • Liaise with contractors, consultants, landowners and members of the public.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure work is undertaken in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and best practice.

About You

We are looking for a qualified and experienced Tree Officer with a strong understanding of TPO legislation, Conservation Areas and local authority tree work.

You should have:

  • Proven experience working within a local authority or similar planning environment.
  • Strong knowledge of TPO and Conservation Area legislation and procedures.
  • Good arboricultural knowledge and the ability to assess tree-related applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload.
  • A professional, practical approach to site inspections and stakeholder engagement.
