Tenancy Sustainment Officer

Location: Yorkshire, UK
Contract: 12 months
Working pattern: Hybrid – 4 days on site / 1 day from home

About the role

Our client is looking for an experienced Tenancy Sustainment Officer to join their housing team in Yorkshire on a 12-month contract.

The role will focus on working directly with tenants, visiting them in their homes and communities to understand their circumstances, provide practical support and help them access the right services. You will act as an important link between tenants and internal teams, identifying issues early and making appropriate referrals to help sustain tenancies.

Main responsibilities

• Visit tenants in their homes and engage directly with them to understand their circumstances and support needs.
• Identify issues that could affect tenancy sustainment and take appropriate action.
• Provide tenants with clear information, advice and practical support.
• Signpost and refer tenants to the relevant internal teams and external services.
• Build positive working relationships with tenants and housing colleagues.
• Work with other teams to ensure tenants receive appropriate and timely support.
• Maintain accurate records of visits, support provided and any actions or referrals.
• Follow up on cases where further support or intervention is required.
• Identify recurring issues and contribute to effective tenancy sustainment across the service.

Requirements

• Previous experience in a housing, tenancy sustainment or similar role.
• Experience working directly with tenants or residents.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with people from a range of backgrounds.
• Experience identifying support needs and making appropriate referrals or signposting.
• Ability to work independently when visiting tenants while also working effectively with wider teams.
• Strong organisation and case management skills.
• A practical, tenant-focused approach to resolving issues and supporting tenancy sustainment.
