Freelance Safety Architect – C++ / QNX / IEC 61508

Overview
We are looking for an experienced Safety Architect to support a major defence land systems programme. The role will focus on the definition and delivery of safety-critical software architecture for embedded platforms operating in real-time environments.
Key Requirements
- Strong experience in Safety Architecture for safety-critical systems.
- Proven expertise with IEC 61508 functional safety.
- Hands-on background in C++ embedded software development.
- Strong knowledge of QNX RTOS.
- Experience working on complex defence, military, aerospace, rail, or similar safety-critical projects.
- Ability to define safety concepts, safety requirements, and software architecture.
- Experience with hazard analysis, risk assessment, FMEA, FTA, and safety case development.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and technical leadership skills.
Responsibilities
- Define and maintain software and safety architecture.
- Develop safety concepts and ensure compliance with IEC 61508.
- Support system and software design reviews.
- Produce safety documentation and safety cases.
- Work closely with systems, software, and integration teams.
- Support verification, validation, and certification activities.
Nice to Have
- Defence or land vehicle systems experience.
- Experience with vehicle networks (CAN, Ethernet).
- Knowledge of systems engineering methodologies.
- Exposure to ISO 26262, EN 50128, or DO-178C.
