Service Manager – Waste Collections
Brief Summary
Our local authority client based in the North West are seeking an experienced Service Manager – Waste Collections to join their team. They are looking for an individual to come on a contract basis for a minimum of 6 months, with the possibility of extension.
This is a key leadership role, responsible for overseeing waste collection services, managing operational managers, ensuring effective budget control, and supporting the ongoing transformation and development of the service.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of waste collection services across the authority.
- Provide direct management and support to Operational Managers, ensuring high service standards are maintained.
- Manage service budgets, monitoring expenditure and identifying opportunities for efficiencies and savings.
- Support and drive service transformation initiatives to improve performance and customer outcomes.
- Monitor operational performance and implement improvements where required.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety, environmental, and statutory requirements.
- Work collaboratively with senior stakeholders, elected members, and external partners to support service objectives.
Required Experience
- Proven experience managing waste collection services within a local authority environment.
- Experience leading and developing operational management teams.
- Strong budget management and financial planning experience.
- Demonstrable experience supporting service improvement and transformation programmes.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Strong understanding of operational performance management and service delivery.
Desirable (Optional)
- Previous experience leading large-scale waste transformation projects.
- Relevant management qualification.
- Knowledge of current industry challenges and best practice within waste and environmental services.
