Service Charge Manager – 6 Month Contract
Location: Hertfordshire (minimal travel)
Contract: 6 months, temporary
We’re working with a social housing provider in Hertfordshire who is looking for an experienced Service Charge Manager to join them on a 6-month contract. The organisation is going through a period of transformation. You’ll work alongside the current Service Charge Manager to help embed a new team, strengthen processes and make sure service charge delivery stays accurate and compliant throughout the change.
The role is largely based in one location, with minimal travel required.
The role
- Support the current manager in leading and developing a newly formed service charge team
- Oversee the calculation, setting and apportionment of service charges for tenants and leaseholders
- Manage year-end reconciliations and actual cost statements, making sure they are accurate and issued on time
- Support budget setting and estimates for the coming year
- Advise on Section 20 consultation and make sure it complies with the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985
- Help review and improve processes, procedures and systems as part of the wider transformation
- Deal with complex queries, disputes and challenges from residents and leaseholders
- Work with colleagues across finance, housing management and property services
- Coach and upskill team members so improvements last beyond the contract
About you
- Proven experience managing service charges in social housing, whether with a housing association or a local authority
- Strong working knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985 and Section 20 requirements
- Experience of year-end reconciliations, budget setting and apportionment methods
- Confident supporting or leading teams, ideally during periods of change or restructure
- A collaborative approach, able to support an existing manager without stepping on toes
- Strong analytical skills and good attention to detail
- Clear communicator, comfortable explaining complex charges to residents and stakeholders
