Senior Transport Planning Consultant

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Transport Planning Consultant to join a growing, independent consultancy with an expanding portfolio of transport planning projects across the UK.

The successful candidate will work across a diverse range of projects, initially focusing on development planning. This will include everything from developing movement strategies to support the master planning of strategic sites through to supporting reserved matters applications.

The Role

As a Senior Transport Planning Consultant, you will play a key role in delivering projects and working closely with clients, stakeholders and wider project teams.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing technical reports, including Access Appraisals, Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, Travel Plans and WCHAR / ATZ Assessments and Reviews.
  • Undertaking junction capacity modelling and initial CAD design work, including Swept Path Analysis.
  • Liaising with clients, stakeholders and external project team members.
  • Representing the consultancy at meetings, public consultations and exhibitions.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across the wider Transport Planning team.
  • Managing smaller-scale projects from inception through to successful completion.
  • Supporting the continued growth and development of the Transport Planning team.

About You

The ideal candidate will be a capable and adaptable Transport Planner with strong technical, analytical and communication skills.

You will be:

  • Pragmatic, resilient and confident working across multiple projects.
  • Highly organised, with excellent time management and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • A strong communicator, able to present complex transport issues clearly to a range of audiences.
  • Analytical and numerate, with strong Excel skills.
  • Confident producing high-quality technical reports with minimal supervision.
  • Self-motivated, commercially aware and keen to develop your career within Transport Planning.
  • Comfortable building relationships with clients and developing a professional network.

Experience & Qualifications

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience within Transport Planning.
  • Experience preparing Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, Travel Plans and feasibility studies.
  • Experience managing smaller-scale projects.
  • Experience using TRICS, TemPro and Junctions 9 (ARCADY/PICADY).
  • CAD experience, including Swept Path Analysis, would be advantageous.
  • Experience with LinSig, GIS or microsimulation would be beneficial.
  • A degree in a relevant discipline such as Geography, Civil Engineering, Mathematics, Planning or Transport Planning is preferred but not essential.
