Senior Planner – Town Planning

Location: Birmingham
Salary: £45,000 – £55,000 + benefits
Working Pattern: Hybrid

The Opportunity

I’m currently working with a highly regarded multi-disciplinary property consultancy that is looking to appoint a Senior Planner to join its growing Birmingham planning team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced planner looking to take the next step in their career, working on a diverse portfolio of projects alongside experienced planning and property professionals.

The role will provide exposure to a wide range of sectors including residential, commercial, retail, healthcare, strategic land and mixed-use development.

The Role

As a Senior Planner, you will take responsibility for delivering planning advice across a range of projects while developing strong client relationships and supporting more junior members of the team.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing planning applications and projects from inception through to determination.
• Providing strategic and technical planning advice to clients.
• Preparing planning statements, reports and supporting documentation.
• Undertaking planning appraisals, policy assessments and development feasibility work.
• Liaising with local planning authorities, consultants, clients and stakeholders.
• Attending client meetings, site visits, consultations and planning committees.
• Supporting and mentoring junior members of the planning team.
• Managing project deadlines, budgets and client expectations.
• Contributing to business development and winning new instructions.
• Keeping up to date with changes to planning policy and legislation.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

• A degree or postgraduate qualification in Town Planning or a related discipline.
• MRTPI qualification or be working towards chartership.
• Strong experience within a planning consultancy, developer or related environment.
• Good knowledge of the UK planning system.
• Experience managing planning applications and client instructions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong commercial awareness and a client-focused approach.
• The ability to manage multiple projects and work to deadlines.
• Ambition to progress towards Associate level.
