About the role
Our client, an engineering organisation in the life sciences sector, needs a Senior Project Manager in Austria on a contract basis. You’ll lead engineering projects from start to finish and make sure they’re delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the quality and compliance standards the industry expects.
As the senior lead on your projects, you’ll own scope, schedule, cost and risk, and coordinate engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning activities across internal teams, contractors and suppliers. You’ll be the main contact for client stakeholders, keep reporting clear and dependable, and keep the project moving when priorities or conditions change. Life sciences projects come with demanding quality and regulatory requirements, so a structured, well-documented approach matters.
The working language is English, and German is useful for day-to-day communication with local teams and partners in Austria. The role suits an experienced project manager who is comfortable leading multi-discipline teams and handling senior stakeholders, and who brings sound commercial judgement to complex projects. Main responsibilities
- Lead engineering projects through the full lifecycle, from initiation and planning to handover and close-out
- Define and manage project scope, schedule, budget and resources
- Coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, qualification and commissioning activities
- Act as the main point of contact for client stakeholders and build strong working relationships
- Manage contractors, suppliers and subcontractors, including performance and change control
- Identify, assess and manage project risks and issues, putting mitigation plans in place
- Monitor cost and progress and produce clear, accurate project reporting
- Make sure projects meet health and safety, quality and regulatory requirements
- Lead and motivate multi-discipline project teams
Requirements
Essential
- Significant experience as a Project Manager on engineering projects, including at a senior level
- Proven track record of delivering projects to time, budget and quality targets
- Strong skills in planning, cost control, risk management and change management
- Experience managing client stakeholders, contractors and suppliers
- Able to lead multi-discipline teams
- Fluent English, spoken and written
- Able to work in Austria
Desirable
- German language skills
- Experience on projects in the life sciences, pharmaceutical or biotech sector
- Understanding of GMP and qualification and validation requirements
- Recognised project management qualification, such as PMP or PRINCE2
- Experience with project planning tools such as MS Project or Primavera P6
