Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Interim Senior Planning Enforcement Officer to lead and manage complex planning enforcement cases, with a particular focus on issues relating to Gypsy and Traveller sites. This is a critical role within the Planning Enforcement Team, responsible for ensuring compliance with planning legislation and providing expert guidance on often sensitive and high-profile cases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigate and manage complex planning enforcement cases, with a primary focus on unauthorised developments relating to Gypsy and Traveller communities.
- Work collaboratively with legal teams, planning officers, elected members, and external agencies.
- Prepare and issue enforcement notices, stop notices, and other statutory documents.
- Lead site visits, gather evidence, and prepare reports for committee and legal proceedings.
- Represent the council at public inquiries, appeals, and in court as necessary.
- Provide mentoring and guidance to junior enforcement officers.
- Ensure that all actions are proportionate, fair, and compliant with current legislation and case law, particularly with respect to the rights of protected communities.
