About the role
Our client is looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to also act as Team Lead for its DevOps team on a consultancy basis. The team currently has three engineers, who develop, maintain and evolve the software production environment, including the tools, infrastructure and automation systems behind it. Software development spans both Linux and Android platforms.
Alongside hands-on engineering work, the successful candidate will plan, prioritise and drive the team’s activities. You will coordinate work across a range of stakeholders and help shape the strategic direction of the DevOps function, while keeping the team’s day-to-day delivery on track.
The team is also responsible for operating and maintaining several internally managed systems and services, so operational stability and continuous improvement are central to the role. You will lead initiatives across automation, infrastructure and software delivery processes. Location, rate, start date, contract duration and working arrangements will be confirmed with candidates.
Main responsibilities
- Act as Team Lead for the DevOps team, planning, prioritising and driving its activities
- Carry out hands-on DevOps engineering across tools, infrastructure and automation systems
- Develop, maintain and evolve the software production environment for Linux and Android development
- Coordinate work and priorities across multiple stakeholders
- Support the strategic development of the DevOps function
- Keep internally managed systems and services stable, and drive continuous improvement
- Lead initiatives related to automation, infrastructure and software delivery processes
- Build and maintain integrations and automation through REST APIs across the development toolchain
- Document systems, processes, configurations and operational procedures
- Manage and support the virtualised server environment
- Handle support requests and incidents through ticketing and issue management systems
Requirements
Essential
- Documented experience administering and supporting Linux and macOS clients and servers in a software development environment
- Python scripting and automation
- Experience developing and supporting cloud-based services and applications on AWS and/or Azure
- Experience working in a mature DevOps environment, with demonstrated knowledge of CI/CD methodologies, tools and best practices
- Integration and automation through REST APIs for platforms such as Bitbucket, Jenkins, Artifactory, GitLab and JIRA
- Experience documenting systems, processes, configurations and operational procedures
- Strong understanding of IP networking concepts and basic network troubleshooting
- Experience administering and operating virtualised server environments based on VMware
- Experience working with ticketing and issue management systems
Desirable
- Experience leading or coordinating a technical team
- Experience supporting software development for Android
