Locum Senior Adult Care Lawyer

Organisation: Confidential Local Authority (Midlands)
Contract: Locum – 6 months initially
Working Arrangement: Fully remote
Day Rate: Competitive and negotiable (dependent on experience)

Role Overview
A confidential local authority in the Midlands is seeking an experienced Senior Adult Social Care Lawyer to join their Legal Services team on a locum basis.

The successful candidate will provide specialist legal advice and support across a broad range of Adult Social Care matters, working closely with the Council’s Adult Social Care, safeguarding and operational teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality legal advice across Adult Social Care matters

  • Advise on complex and sensitive cases involving vulnerable adults

  • Provide advice in relation to safeguarding, capacity and best interests

  • Advise on the legal framework surrounding care and support, including the Care Act

  • Advise on ordinary residence, funding and disputes between authorities

  • Deal with applications and proceedings relating to the Court of Protection where required

  • Provide advice on deprivation of liberty and related statutory duties

  • Support social care teams with complex casework and risk management

  • Work closely with senior officers and other professionals to provide pragmatic and commercially focused legal advice

  • Manage a varied caseload with a high degree of autonomy

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or experienced Legal Executive

  • Strong post-qualification experience within Adult Social Care

  • Previous local authority experience is highly desirable

  • Strong knowledge of the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act and relevant safeguarding legislation

  • Experience dealing with complex Adult Social Care and Court of Protection matters

  • Able to provide clear, pragmatic and commercially focused legal advice

  • Comfortable working independently in a remote environment

Working Arrangements
The role is fully remote, offering flexibility for an experienced locum lawyer. The successful candidate will work closely with the Council’s legal and Adult Social Care teams remotely.

Contract Details

  • Initial 6-month locum assignment

  • Competitive and negotiable day rate, dependent on experience

  • Fully remote working

  • Potential for extension subject to service requirements
