The Assignment
We are looking for an experienced Freelance Senior Security Engineer for a 6-month assignment in Brussels.
In this role, you will contribute directly to strengthening the organisation’s operational cybersecurity maturity. You will act as a technical security point of contact, advising IT teams, identifying security risks and vulnerabilities, and supporting the implementation of pragmatic and sustainable security measures.
You will work closely with infrastructure, development, IT and security teams, as well as external security partners.
Key Responsibilities
Act as a technical point of contact for security-related questions and advise IT teams on security best practices.
Analyse IT environments and identify security risks, threats and vulnerabilities.
Support the implementation and improvement of security measures across infrastructure, applications and data.
Identify, assess and follow up on vulnerabilities and remediation actions.
Provide recommendations following security incidents or identified risks.
Collaborate with internal IT teams, developers and external security partners.
Contribute to the improvement of security controls and processes.
Create and maintain technical security documentation.
Define and follow up on relevant security metrics and KPIs.
Contribute to topics including patch management, firewall controls and identity management.
Support the continuous improvement of the organisation’s overall security posture.
Profile
Must-have
5–8+ years of experience in IT Security / Cybersecurity.
Strong technical knowledge of:
Operating systems
Networking
Firewalls
Cloud environments
Good understanding of Web Application Security principles and the ability to work with development teams on security topics.
Broad knowledge of security technologies such as:
EDR
Cloud Security
SAST
IAM
Firewalls
Security and auditing tools
Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and security best practices.
Proactive, pragmatic and structured approach.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to work independently as a senior technical expert.
Fluent French is mandatory.
Good understanding of Dutch is a plus.
Nice-to-have
Experience working in complex enterprise environments.
Experience with security governance and security controls.
Experience supporting or mentoring junior security profiles.
Relevant cybersecurity certifications are a plus.
