Repairs Officer

Vivid Resourcing

Location: Guildford
Contract: Interim

About the role

Our client is a borough council in Surrey, looking to appoint an Interim Repairs Officer to support its housing repairs service. The role is based in Guildford and sits within the team responsible for keeping council homes safe, well maintained and compliant.

The successful candidate will manage day-to-day repairs for tenants, from logging and prioritising requests through to inspection, completion and follow-up. You will work with contractors, surveyors and colleagues across housing services, making sure work is delivered to the right standard and within agreed timescales.

This suits an experienced repairs or housing maintenance professional who can start quickly and take responsibility for a busy workload. Tenant contact is a regular part of the role, so clear communication and a practical approach are important. The rate, start date and assignment length will be confirmed with candidates.

Main responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of responsive and planned repairs from initial report through to completion
  • Triage and prioritise repair requests in line with service standards and policy
  • Arrange and monitor works carried out by contractors and in-house operatives
  • Carry out or arrange inspections, including post-completion checks, to confirm work quality
  • Liaise with tenants to agree access, explain works and keep them informed of progress
  • Handle enquiries, complaints and escalations relating to repairs in a fair and timely manner
  • Manage void and damp, mould and disrepair cases, working with other teams where required
  • Keep accurate records on the housing management system and maintain compliance with health and safety requirements
  • Support budget monitoring and the approval of orders and invoices

Requirements

  • Experience in a repairs, housing maintenance or property services role, ideally within social housing or local government
  • A good working knowledge of housing repairs processes and tenant repair responsibilities
  • Experience of managing contractors and monitoring the quality of works
  • An understanding of health and safety requirements relating to housing and property
  • Experience of dealing with tenants and handling enquiries and complaints
  • Good organisation and time management, with the ability to manage a busy caseload
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience of using a housing or repairs management system

The offer

This is an interim position based in Guildford. Rate, start date and assignment length will be confirmed with candidates. You will join an established housing team and take on a clear remit from the outset.
