Private Sector Housing Officer
Location: Hampshire (Hybrid – 2 days on site, 1 day from home)
Contract: 6‑month contract
Working pattern: 3 days per week
The Role
We are currently working in partnership with a local authority in Hampshire to appoint an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer to support the council’s private sector housing team on a 6‑month contract.
This role will focus on delivering frontline housing enforcement and inspection work across the private rented sector, ensuring properties meet statutory and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct property inspections under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS)
- Inspect and regulate Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs), including licensing and compliance
- Manage Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) inspections and associated casework
- Identify hazards and take appropriate enforcement action where required
- Liaise with landlords, tenants, contractors and internal council teams
- Prepare inspection reports, schedules of works and statutory documentation
- Ensure all work is carried out in line with relevant housing legislation and council policies
About You
- Proven experience working as a Private Sector Housing Officer (or similar) within a local authority
- Strong working knowledge of HHSRS, HMO legislation and DFG processes
- Confident carrying out inspections and managing a varied caseload
- Excellent communication and report‑writing skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider council team
- Full UK driving licence (or ability to travel independently across the area)
