Property Lawyer – Contract – Remote Position (must be UK citizen)

Location: South West England, UK (remote working possible)

Our client is a public sector organisation seeking an experienced Property Lawyer to join their legal team on a contract basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a property specialist to support a busy in-house legal function, providing practical and commercially focused advice across a varied property portfolio.

The successful candidate will advise on a broad range of property matters, including conveyancing, acquisitions and disposals, leases, land transactions and other property-related agreements. You will also support on matters involving planning obligations, including Section 106 agreements and associated deeds, as well as drafting, reviewing and negotiating legal documentation.

You will work closely with internal stakeholders and external parties, providing clear legal advice and ensuring transactions are progressed efficiently while protecting our client’s interests. The role will involve managing your own caseload, negotiating with external solicitors and other parties, and working collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice on a wide range of property and land matters.
  • Handle property transactions including acquisitions, disposals, leases, licences and conveyancing.
  • Draft, review and negotiate contracts, deeds and other legal documentation.
  • Advise on and complete Section 106 agreements, variations and related documentation.
  • Liaise with external solicitors, developers, landowners and other third parties.
  • Work closely with internal property, planning and commercial teams.
  • Manage a varied caseload and ensure matters are progressed within agreed timescales.
  • Identify legal risks and provide clear, practical advice to internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure all transactions comply with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.

About you:

Our client is looking for a qualified solicitor or legal professional with strong experience in property law. You will have practical experience handling property transactions and be confident drafting and negotiating legal documentation.

Experience within a local authority or wider public sector environment would be advantageous, particularly exposure to Section 106 agreements, public sector property transactions or a diverse council estate. However, strong private practice property experience will also be considered.

You will need excellent communication and negotiation skills, the ability to manage a busy caseload independently, and a pragmatic approach to providing legal advice to non-legal stakeholders.

Your requirements:

  • Qualified solicitor, barrister or Chartered Legal Executive with relevant property law experience.
  • Strong practical knowledge of property and conveyancing matters.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating legal agreements.
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload and work to deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Previous local authority or public sector experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Available to start at short notice.
