A Local Authority in Staffordshire is seeking an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer to join their team on an initial 3‑month contract, with the potential for extension.
The Role
You will be responsible for regulating standards in the private rented sector, ensuring properties are safe, compliant, and meet statutory requirements. This is a fast‑paced role requiring immediate impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out inspections under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS)
- Investigate housing complaints and take appropriate enforcement action
- Administer and enforce HMO licensing and management regulations
- Prepare schedules of work, notices, and legal documentation
- Provide professional advice to landlords, tenants, and managing agents
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience working as a Private Sector Housing Officer within a local authority
- Strong working knowledge of HHSRS
- Demonstrable experience with HMO licensing and enforcement
- Up‑to‑date understanding of housing legislation and enforcement powers
- Ability to manage a caseload independently
- Availability to start immediately
